Jan 30 - Awards Ceremony at Golden Gate Fields

2nd place for the season. Every race. Finished clean.

In life, sometimes the best rewards go to those who just show up every time and do their job - no complaints... no mistakes...

Al Butterfield once said to me, "Well, there are winners, and then there are champions."

Perplexed, I asked the difference.

He said, "Winners have to be first. Slogging it out at the front. There may be two or three of them fighting for first. The champion drops back and gives them some room. Sure enough, a few laps later, they're all in a wreck, crumpled heaps on the side of the course, and the champion drives on by and finishes."

Well, I wasn't #1, but for me #2 in my first full season racing was plenty good enough.

The awards banquet was held at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday afternoon, followed by a day at the horse races. A very fun time for all.
